Down on the Farm

We spent two weeks learning about farm. The first week we learned all about the different animals on a farm. The second week we took a look at the different foods you can grow and get from the farm. At the end of the unit we had a Farmer Dress up Day and Farmer Breakfast. The students helped make butter one day that we put on our biscuits.

Insects

We spent a week learning about insects. Here are some pictures of the great work the students did.

Rain forest

We spent a couple weeks learning about the rain forest. We learned all about the animals in the rain forest and the things you can see and do there. Here are some pictures of the work we did about the rain forest.

We made tree frog math problems. The students finger painted bugs on the tongue. Then we added them together.


We learned about piranhas. They have razor sharp teeth. Here is a fun activity we did with our piranhas.




We made safari guides out of construction paper. Then we wrote about something you might see in the rain forest.







In the classroom, I made a rain forest hanging from the ceiling. It has a bunch of different animals that we wrote facts and added to our animal throughout our unit.

Fair Share

In kindergarten we teach the basic concept of fractions. We teach them 1/2 and about fair share. I read the book Bears Berries. Then we each got paper berries that we had to share evenly among two bears on a page. The students picked this concept up quickly. So I had the students make a bear and two plates from construction paper. Then I gave them some berries and they had to share them evenly.


Later the students got with a buddy and I gave them a piece of bread that they had fair share with. So the students had to carefully tear the bread in half.

Life Cycles

The students learned about the life cycle of a butterfly, ladybug, and frog this past week. As a class we wrote together about the changes that the butterfly and frog make. The day we learned about ladybugs, the students got to draw their own picture of each of the stages.

Weather

Last week we spent some time learning about weather. On the first day we created a tree map where the students made pictures that represented the weather they had.




We spent a day learning about clouds, rain, and wind. The day we learned about clouds, I took the students outside to observe the clouds and write in their science journals about clouds.
